VERONA - At first, an elderly Verona woman was made an offer she couldn't refuse — free driveway work.
But after starting the work, the men who made the initial offer came back to the woman and told her they'd have to charge her per square foot.
Finally, they intimidated her into writing a check for thousands of dollars, according to the Augusta County Sheriff's Office.
Then they reportedly came back for more money.
That was the scenario laid out by the sheriff's office Tuesday following the recent arrest of one of the alleged scammers. On Friday, Shenandoah County authorities arrested Belcher A. Grady, 34, of Strasburg, on charges of financial exploitation and failure to perform construction.

Business owner 'eric bradley jr.' Came to my house, to offer to resealcoat my driveway. He gave me a written estimate of $240 plus $90 suppies/tax. I agreed and the work was done. He then offered me a bill for over $1,700!! He insisted that he had told me verbally about the extra $1,300+ cost, due to the extreme cost of his special sealing coat cost! (He had not done that). He then lowered the total cost to me down to $1,500 even.
Stay away from this guy as he's a con man!
Sometimes spelled "Breadley" he is related to the Grady's.
